Kingston Council has finally removed offensive graffiti from Blagdon Road public car park, after more than 6 months of waiting. The issue was raised by Councillor Ian George, who submitted a formal question to the last full Council meeting.
The council question finally prompted a much needed clean-up of the car park, around the stairs and entrance. However, the response said it was cleaned as part of their regular cleaning programme – presumably every 6 months. With no promise of an increased cleaning regime, it’s only a matter of time before the graffiti returns.
The question/statement from Councillor Ian George: ‘The poor state of Blagdon Road Car Park is harming the trade of New Malden’s business owners The car park, has been covered with graffiti, with no maintenance carried out by Kingston Council, which has been putting off people from visiting the town centre. The same graffiti has been there for six months or more, including drawings of large penis on the door to the lifts, and on the lift doors themselves. New Malden residents and businesses deserve better from the LibDem-run council. The car park is filthy and covered in graffiti, which encourages further antisocial behaviour. Why does the council think it acceptable for such disgusting graffiti to be left for children, families and shoppers to endure?’
