News from the Conservative government that the Royal Borough of Kingston will be receiving an extra £167,000 for road repairs and resurfacing this year and next. A long-term increase from central government will see an extra £5,227,000 put aside to deal with Kingston’s roads over the next 10 years.
The funding comes from the government as part of the benefit from £235m of HS2 savings – part of the biggest ever funding uplift for local road improvements.
Councillor Ian George said: “This is great news that Kingston will be receiving this sizeable cash boost to be spent on repairing and resurfacing our local roads. It will help improve journey times, save on vehicle repairs caused by potholes and improve safety for cyclists too. LibDem-run Kingston Council and Mayor Khan have let local residents down dealing with Kingston’s roads, so it is great to see the government stepping in to help out on this important issue.”
